Teaching Approach

My lessons are tailored to each student’s learning style, interests, and preferences. We will build confidence by developing strong fundamentals:
Proper Technique– this is essential to avoid injury and frustration. We’ll study methods that enable you to work smarter instead of just harder. Despite the great resources available online, there’s simply no substitute for getting real-time feedback on strategies such as how to position your hands or the instrument, how to change chords or execute a tricky phrase more efficiently, and develop a practice routine that fits your schedule.
Creativity– I often tell my students that it’s never too soon to write your first song. There’s no need to be intimidated by the creative process and learning a bit of music theory or analysing your favorite songs can unlock the door to releasing your own creation into the world.
Developing musical expression– the difference between a good and a great player is often more than just practice and talent. Learning to use dynamics (quiet vs loud and everywhere inbetween) and the myriad ways of playing a sequence of notes can give you options you may never have considered and make your playing much more vivid and exciting.
Learning an instrument should be a fun and fulfilling experience and I work hard to ensure that my students enjoy each session and leave feeling motivated and accomplished.
Whether you’re taking up an instrument for the first time or looking to refine your skills, I combine my expertise with a passion for teaching to provide a supportive and engaging learning environment. In addition to private instruction, I’ve performed and recorded extensively in bands and solo, bringing real-world experience into every lesson.
If you enjoy what you’re learning, you’ll be motivated to practice. Consistent and effective practice leads to progress and accomplishment. This initiates a positive cycle of growth and joy as you enrich your life with music and invest in yourself!
