Roger’s Bio
My varied projects have gained recognition as both a versatile and gifted guitarist. Studying improvisation and composition under Art Johnson and Rick Helzer at San Diego State University, and spent over 20 years in the Bay Area writing, touring and performing as a freelance guitarist.
The ease with which I approach my instrument, is such that can only be gained from years of experience. My technical mastery and diverse musical palette, allow me to shift effortlessly from delicate melodies to gritty heart-stopping noise.
I’ve established myself as a contributing member of the music scene, performing with Magic In The Other, Jolie Holland, Mercury Falls, Boxcar Saints, Odessa Chen and numerous other artists as well as collaborating with many filmmakers and visual artists for multi-media performances. Serving as lead guitarist for noir rock band Boxcar Saints and experimental jazz ensemble Transmission, I expanded my range to include songwriter and singer for the band the Cannery, on Awful Bliss Records.
While I have toured extensively in both the U.S. and abroad, I have also made my mark as a recording artist. My catalog includes Last Things (Boxcar Saints), There Is Life In This Old Land (the Cannery), Hollow Sea (Transmission), and All is Fair (Gojogo).
Whether I am composing, performing, producing, or teaching, I bring my own unique voice and a level of excellence to whatever I choose to carry out.
I live and work in San Diego, California with my wife, 2 sons and a scruffy pup.
